Rising Popularity for Siddha-Varma Treatment: Minister Veena George

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George stated that the number of people seeking Siddha treatment is increasing daily, with Varma therapy gaining significant popularity across Kerala.
Speaking at the state-level inauguration of the 9th Siddha Day celebrations held at Putharikandam E.K. Nayanar Park, the Minister highlighted the unprecedented developmental activities in the Siddha sector.
Key Highlights from the Minister’s Speech:
 * Infrastructure Growth: Beyond creating new posts and institutions, the government has ensured quality standards by securing NABH accreditation for existing facilities.
 * Expansion: The Siddha sector is witnessing a historical phase of growth and modernization in the state.
Specialty Medical Camps & Services
As part of Siddha Day, several specialized medical camps were organized to provide expert care to the public:
 * Varma Specialty OP: For neurological and nerve-related ailments.
 * ‘Prana’ OP: Dedicated to pediatric allergies and respiratory issues.
 * Magalir Jyothi OP: Specialized care for women’s health issues.
 * Lifestyle & Skin Clinics: Dedicated sections for lifestyle diseases and dermatology.
The event also featured a special OP and exhibition by the Siddha Regional Research Institute (Pujappura) under the Union Ministry of AYUSH. Attendees benefited from free medicine distribution, blood tests, and bone density screenings.
Community Focus & Awareness
 * Haritha Karma Sena: A special medical camp was arranged for around 300 members of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s Haritha Karma Sena.
 * Healthy Food Exhibition: As part of the ‘Arogyam Anandam’ campaign, ICDS Thiruvananthapuram Urban Unit showcased nutritious Siddha-based food preparations.
 * Medicinal Plant Distribution: The State Medicinal Plants Board distributed nearly 500 medicinal saplings to the public.
