Antiepileptic action of siddha drug Venpoosani Legyam

Botanical name of venpoosani is Cucurbita pepo.It contain GABA.GABA is the cheif inhibitory neuro transmitter in the brain and it reduces the excitability of nerve cells in epilepsy.GABA does not penetrate the blood brain barrier and it is synthesized in the brain itself.It is synthesized from Glutamate using the enzyme L-Glutamic acid decarboxylase and pyridoxal phosphate.Epilepsy is a disorder in which there is diminution in the secretion of GABA.So venpoosani which contain GABA and Vit B rfuces the incidence of Seizures
